Roots & Patisserie
This multidisciplinary exhibition brings together, fashion, music, dance, handicraft, gastronomy - creating a final concept in clothing and accessories envisioned and executed by Cheila herself.
Using the craft of knitting - an ancient and recurring habit of her ancestors on the South of Brazil where rigorous Winter demands and inspires the creation of clothing made out of wool, Cheila will bring her works in progress as an interaction with the audience. Knitting, embroidering, patching up fragments of materials to compose unique pieces of clothing.
Together with knitting, Cheila will perform dance pieces and will share cupcakes - typical from the gastronomy tradition of her homeland Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Roots & Patisserie resembles the concept of Food Art where the color pallets - during the process of the composition of the clothes - is intimately connected to the organic elements found in Nature itself such as vegetables, tropical fruits, baking and patisserie.
As a result, unique pieces of clothes will come to life in bodies that move on an urban cosmopolitan environment - a similar journey that the Brazilian artists Lygia Clark ( and her Penetrable) and Oiticicca ( and his Parangolés) went through.
